In The Mean Time...

I've not been doing much blogging of late...
Its not like I've been doing nothing - quite the contrary! I have been working on lots of projects, but unfortunately still not done a photo shoot with the finished results! (hopefully soon though!)

here are a few snap shots of what I've been up to!

Inspired my Elizabeth Bennet - 2005 Pride and Prejudice - by Rose McCredie

this dress was inspired by one of Lizzy's dresses (2005 P&P)
I call it my Shift Dress coz it has like the shirt/shift as the under dress then the over gown.
I am this... Ooh, it was a few months ago now... I was really happy with it, even though the fabric I used was quite different than the films and gives a different effect - but it is really casual, comfy and yes it makes one feel very Lizzy Bennet-y! (I confess, I have been one of those 'weird people' who wear their period creations in public... this gown several times haha!)

This is Emily! She is a beautiful friend of mine! We made this dress together over TWO DAYS...(unfortunately many weeks apart) We were, both, so happy with it. Doesn't it look great on her?! It is a 'kind of' Victorian era dress.
Not too shabby for a quick wip-up in a couple of days!

I liked the finished product - so I decided to sketch up a design of my own...

That's the fabric I'll be using. I've done toiles of the bodice over a lovely Victorian corset
I made and it looks fabulous! The hourglass silhouette is so lovely...
But since other projects were more pressing I've put it aside for the present.

working on another project. (which is now complete)
Lizzy inspired, her: Opening Brown Dress (2005 P&P)

More Coronation Gown

Unpicking after I hand stitched all the embroidery, but found it some how ended up wonky!

Ah! all that work - poof - gone!
(as a matter of fact it actually took a fare amount of time undoing the lot)

after another fare amount of hours...
I much proffer it now (even though after all my efforts - it still wasn't 100% even)
the first time I only used two embroidery threads - this time I used four, which gives it a much better look!
"blessing in disguise!"

half the skirt pattern (not divided into sections yet)

pinning all the 20 panels of the skirt together then stitching
(Praise the good LORD for sewing machines!)

a quick shot of it on the manni
i've still not found the correct colour fabric for the center panel.
When I do that will be stitched down the middle of each (light green) panel.
(keep in mind this is not pressed and looks absolutley WRONG at present... but I'm still excited about it!)

I'm making a dress for a lovely friend of mine!

I had heaps of this fabric and my sister liked it so I made a skirt for her.
I had a heap left so next summer I plan to make the dress on the pattern!

We were also given this fabric below...
it is from Sri Lanka and it will make some lovely dresses I'm sure!

This beautiful black lace I was given to go over the
 "shocking-mistake-of-green-anna-dress-fabric" I bought 8 meters of,
that I will now use to make a Titanic/Downton Abbey evening gown...

I'm looking forward to making a 1900/10/20's evening dress. This wont be for some time however for I have not made any of that era so I want to do it all properly with corset and all.
But I don't suppose there is any harm in sketching up some designs for it...

another project on the go...

a few quick sketched I had to do as apart of my school work.

I hope your day is TIP-TOP-TERRIFIC!

                            Love, Rose xoxo

A Little Too Obsessed???

Whilst I've not been blogging there have been a few purchases...

I hear people say "Frozen was such a great movie - I saw it TWICE at the cinemas!" or "I just bought the DVD!" or "I got the sound track..." "I know all the songs" and I'm like: "I saw it twice in the cinemas, know all the songs..." I bought the dvd, also the sound track, AND the Art of Frozen... and did you know I made Anna's winter dress? - I'm also in the process of making her Coronation gown!" - Oh dear hahaha!
And my friends thought I was obsessed with Tangled...

Have a fabulous day! Rose xx

Up Date

I've not posted in a while that would be for two main reasons...
I have been busy sewing and, well, I've simply not been bothered! (terrible I know!)

so here are a few snaps shots of what i'm up to with the Coronation Gown!

As you can see the bodice is complete.
The embroidery is done, the bias binding is on, at the back I've got the lacing and the modesty panel all that is left is the sleeves which I haven't got the fabric for yet...

I had a bit of a dilemma with the green under fabric...
I bought it on line and this is the colour I received in the mail:

YEP. I bought like 8 meters of this... VERY BRIGHT GREEN!
I couldn't use it. No. I just couldn't.
thankfully my sewing tutor helped me out a bit by ordering me another colour from one of her fabric suppliers she had samples so I got to see exactly what the colour was going to be... MUCH BETTER!

so what will I do with all the other fabric you may ask??? Well, I think I might make a Downton Abbey/Titanic style dress... see with some sort of black lace, and beading etc. it wouldn't look too bad!
(but one project at a time here!)

and this is some more additions to my scrap book of this project!

I have also been working on my own re-creation of Lizzy Bennet's brown dress: 2005 Pride & Prejudice
Also a Victorian style dress of my own design
and a few other projects - pictures to come soon (hopefully)

Cosette

This is my beautiful friend Ellie

She came over on the week end and she was my "doll"!
I dressed her up in this gown I made last year...
It was inspired by Cosette from Les Miserable! I made and wore if for a friend's "Heroines of Literature" party! Though I have a few photo's we didn't really do a full photo shoot and I've really wanted to put this up!

these are some shots of me that a friend took with her great camera!
(this is her blog: http://bethiquettes.blogspot.com.au/)

was so pleased I could take a few snap shots of this stunner!
(just taken with an iPhone)

the bonnet

(bit random but...) I fell in love with her shoulders!
they are perfect shape for this time period! I know, who notices the shape of some one's shoulder/neck line... but through the 1800's in all those pictures/painting you see they have that curved shoulder line... it was the fashion! and hers are like that!

She looked so pretty in this dress!

the back of the gown with sash and bow

this one was make from a dooner cover if I remember correctly...
It had a lovely design at the side so I used it for the skirt!
Which makes it look less like it was just a bed cover!

I put in an invisible zip down the back (it did also have a hook and eye, but I had to re-do the zip since it broke and hadn't replaced the hook... after sewing in the new zipper)

Thanks Ellie for a fantastic day!
So loved having you for my model, you're welcome to be my model any time!

I hope you enjoyed this post, Rose xx

Drawing

I have been sick this past week. Confined to my bed. No sewing for me!
and since I hadn't done any drawing in quite a while...
I thought I would do a bit whilst staying in bed all that time!

These were inspired by Narnia!

and here these are drawing I did a while back now.
But I liked them so much I thought I'd share them with you!

this one is Cosette - Les Miserable -

Elizabeth Swann - Pirates of the Caribbean -

Rapunzel - Tangled -
This one I drew for a friend. I was so pleased with the result!
(I almost didn't want to part with it haha)

Which is your favourite???

Mannequin

I had been wanting a mannequin for a long time...
but for the type I wanted it was going to be no lower than $100 and I didn't really want to pay that yet.

However! A friend was selling hers for $50!
Though it isn't exactly what I wanted... I wasn't going to get any better for that price...
it is in great condition and works perfectly for what I'll be using it for and I'm really happy with it!

Here you can also see the petty-coat I'll be using for Anna's Coronation Gown...
you can see it is displayed heaps better on the dummy!

also (randomly) I found some of these awesome heart pins!
my piano teacher game me some ages ago and they are just really handy...
but you know how it goes pins do wonder off after a while AND I FOUND MORE!

Have a great day...
happy sewing!
