Four Minutes of Fame

Recently I performed in two eisteddfods for acting! I performed a four minute monologue in character... I was Lydia Bennet... of cause I wanted to be Lizzy, but this suited me better for the occasion and my age etc. My teacher said I make a very good Lydia - I'm not sure if that is a complement - haha!

They were on different days. One on Wednesday 4th of June, the next Sunday the 15th... my brothers and sister and a friend came to watch me at the second eisteddfod...
I wore my transition dress I made a while back, inspired by Kitty Bennet - which was perfect!

It was supper fun! I enjoyed every second of my four minutes with every ones eyes on me (yeah, I like the stage...)! Obviously I was nervous, but more excited nerves than freaking out nerves...

I was stocked when... in Sydney I got SECOND PLACE!

Then in the Lake Maquarie I was FIRST!

2nd at Sydney Eisteddfod, 1st at the next, then... THE OSCARS! haha
I look forward to what happens next!

Skirt Ironing...

 WOW
Well, I guess I did not quite realize just how much time and effort
there was going to be in making a skirt like this...
THIRTY PANELS!
This is the skirt laid out.

The difference between a garment that looks
"professional" and one that looks "home-made" is majorly the pressing of it!
Ironing makes such a difference. It is so important to iron EVERYTHING and correctly...

This took me AGES!
and I decided to just do it on the floor, that way it had no where to fall! haha!

the under side all ironed...

...a few days ago I got the last few things I needed for this project from Spot Light
including the green fabric for the center panels!

the skirt is looking great now, all the pressing is basically complete...
Things still to be done are: measure and stitch hem, and make pattern and sew sleeves!
looking forward to finishing this project, doing a photo shoot and sharing it with you guys!!

have fun sewing!

An Afternoon Wonder

I just decided to wear this dress yesterday morning.
No particular reason, just coz I wanted to... that afternoon...
I had no engagements so I thought it a wonderful idea to go for little walk!

the horses came for some tasty carrots and apples...

(unfortunately these shots aren't all completely focused...
its hard to take a pic when the horses are trying to eat your iPhone!)

this sketch was actually originally drawn on the 15th of February this year (2014)
It has taken me quite a bit of time till I eventually got around to creating the garment...

These images I found most helpful when studying how to re-create this piece.
Of course it is basically impossible to get it exact, since obviously I'm not the original maker/designer, I don't have the same fabric/budget and... I'm not Keira Knightley!

I found these two websites especially helpful for this project.
And if you're interested in perhaps creating a gown inspired by the ones from this film...
These sites are really good!

I would have proffered to make it out of fabric closer to Lizzy's but I was given it - and it still does the job pretty well, I'm very happy with it! Ideally though she has like a light weight, thin cotton sort of material where as mine is simply a synthetic chiffon kind of stuff... with a brown cotton sheet as the under/lining of the dress!

Pride and Prejudice 2005 is probably up there with my utmost favorite film for costuming! I do not know why... I just really like them! So hopefully in the near future I'll be able to make some more new gowns with ideas from this movie!
