IT'S CORONATION DAY

After many weeks of preparation, research and LOTS of sewing - it is complete! WOOHOO

That is another project complete! I've learnt much from making this dress... and am so thrilled I had a go at re-creating the garment (its such fun to wear) and now I have two pieces from a single Disney film! I'm super happy with the result and I don't regret dyed my hair for it either (even if it didn't end up being a wash out )

Hmm??? I wonder what I'll be making next...

Skirt Ironing...

 WOW 

Well, I guess I did not quite realize just how much time and effort
there was going to be in making a skirt like this...
THIRTY PANELS! 

This is the skirt laid out.

The difference between a garment that looks
"professional" and one that looks "home-made" is majorly the pressing of it! 

Ironing makes such a difference. It is so important to iron EVERYTHING and correctly...

This took me AGES!

and I decided to just do it on the floor, that way it had no where to fall! haha!   

the under side all ironed...

...a few days ago I got the last few things I needed for this project from Spot Light

 including the green fabric for the center panels!

the skirt is looking great now, all the pressing is basically complete...

Things still to be done are: measure and stitch hem, and make pattern and sew sleeves!

looking forward to finishing this project, doing a photo shoot and sharing it with you guys!!

Up Date

I've not posted in a while that would be for two main reasons...

I have been busy sewing and, well, I've simply not been bothered! (terrible I know!)

so here are a few snaps shots of what i'm up to with the Coronation Gown!

As you can see the bodice is complete.

The embroidery is done, the bias binding is on, at the back I've got the lacing and the modesty panel all that is left is the sleeves which I haven't got the fabric for yet...

I had a bit of a dilemma with the green under fabric... 

I bought it on line and this is the colour I received in the mail:

YEP. I bought like 8 meters of this... VERY BRIGHT GREEN! 

I couldn't use it. No. I just couldn't.

thankfully my sewing tutor helped me out a bit by ordering me another colour from one of her fabric suppliers she had samples so I got to see exactly what the colour was going to be... MUCH BETTER! 

so what will I do with all the other fabric you may ask??? Well, I think I might make a Downton Abbey/Titanic style dress... see with some sort of black lace, and beading etc. it wouldn't look too bad!

(but one project at a time here!)

and this is some more additions to my scrap book of this project!

I have also been working on my own re-creation of Lizzy Bennet's brown dress: 2005 Pride & Prejudice

Also a Victorian style dress of my own design

and a few other projects - pictures to come soon (hopefully)

It's all part of the process

bodice panels:

Used the same original pattern for this as I did Anna's winter dress, and make a few changes. 

Then did a quick fitting just to make sure it is all perfect! 

stitched together for a toile:

the toile only needed a little bit of adjusting... 

My interpretation of  Anna's detailed bodice...
I drew this up and will use as a guide for the embroidery:

for the bodice I have decided to use velvet like my other dress... 

and for this skirt I'm going to be making it out of satin backed crape since I want a heavy look but still have it twirl and flow as Anna's does... but still hold it's shape!

I'll be making a pattern for the skirt over the petty-coat soon... then do some fabric shopping!!

I found I had enough velvet left over for this bodice too... was super thrilled!

after prepping the interfacing to the velvet I had to trim it back so it is perfect... see the difference?

all the panels are cut, prepped and trimmed back all ready to sew together!

and here I am creating the loops that the lacing will go through at the back...

using graft paper makes it so much easier!
